Every Bite Counts...Take a bite out of Cancer! - Buy on line or pay cash at the door!

Join us TONIGHT, May 12, 2012 for our 3rd annual Team Spike the Wonder Dog silent auction event!  Meet us there, we'll bring the cheese, wine and desserts and you bid on the best auction items* in town. PLUS each attendee gets a Team Spike glass, courtesy of MadeToOrder! The raffle is a fun and inexpensive way to join the fun. 100% of the silent auction proceeds benefit LIVESTRONG.

Have dinner at one of the great restaurants in downtown Mountain View, then join us for dessert and shopping.  Don't forget that Mother's Day is the next day, so you can do some last minute shopping for your mom or wife.  We'll even be selling gorgeous floral arrangements at the end of the evening (donated by Eclectic Styling).

We are excited to welcome back special guest Josh Mailman - Team Spiker,  Member of the Executive Board at the Society for Integrative Oncology and cancer fighter - to share his experience with LiveSTRONG programs and tell why they are so important.

Since 2006 when Team Spike was formed we have raised $200,000 for LIVESTRONG to support those fighting cancer.  Now it's time to get ready for the LIVESTRONG Davis Ride in June.  We hope you'll join us to enjoy a chocolate fountain, desserts, cheese and of course wine (Cycles Gladiator) and beer (provided by Tied House) - and bid in the silent auction to win some fabulous stuff.  There will be wine, art, all sorts of fitness opportunites and other interesting items.

Team Spike is a group of cancer-hating cyclists, runners, walkers , volunteers and fundraisers that work to raise awareness and money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.   Jeff and

 Sherilyn Swan are the Team Captains and named the team after Jeff’s beloved dog, Spike, who they lost to cancer – in this way he is still with us!

 The team’s creation was inspired by Lance Armstrong’s original Ride for the Roses fundraising event in Austin, Texas.  Jeff and Sherilyn have been fundraising and riding the event since 2004, but in 2006 when Jeff’s father, a cancer survivor joined them a team was formed (Bob and Jeff Swan, pictured right).

 Team Spike has now grown to include about 100 people from around the world (you can see our jerseys on the road in South Africa and Japan!).  In 2009 Team Spike participated in three of the four Challenges (San Jose, Seattle, Austin) and in 2010, Spike was be represented in all four cities! 2011 marked the inaugural ride in Davis, California - and of course Team Spike was there. 

Team Spike won the Top Team Fundraising Award in 2010 (right) and to date has raised almost $200,000.  We are always recruiting new members and creating ways to generate awareness and funds.

 Our passion for cycling and our hate of cancer drives us all to continue to raise awareness around the globe about the fight.

After a heated weeks-long battle with Team Anti-Oxidant, Team Spike finally pulled away in the last few days of fundraising to earn the LIVESTRONG Challenge Team Champion Award.  The team set a goal of $40,000 but towards the end upped it to $45,000 and as of July 19th, have raise almost $48,000!  THANK YOU to the entire hard-working team, donors, volunteers and sponsor who contributed!

Team Anti-Oxidant was a driving force in the competitive spirit, of course, but this year Team Spike Co-captain Sherilyn Dahl wanted to win this award to honor the memory of her friend and co-worker, Janna Middleton.  Janna lost her fight with stage 4 brain cancer last month, and many of her Symantec co-workers and friends donated in her memory.  She was a caring, energetic mother of two who will be missed by many - in this small way, we hope to honor her fighting spirit, her winning attitude and her care for others.

Twenty-one members of the team accepted the award at the Challenge Awards Dinner on Saturday night at Charlie's Cafe on the Google campus, where we celebrated Living Strong with other fundraisers, teams and the Lance Armstrong Foundation staff.

Team Spike Cancer Survivors Tell Their Stories

Donors, Sponsors and Friends Help Raise $10,250

This year’s annual fundraiser event put on by Team Spike in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation netted a record $10,250 – pushing the total amount raised to over $35,000 (and counting!) for the San Jose Challenge to date.  This year is in special honor of the memory of Janna Middleton who lost her battle with brain cancer in June.

Sixty-eight guests enjoyed cocktails and Polynesian appetizers at Trader Vic's in Palo Alto while perusing the 45 silent auction items or buying raffle tickets to stuff the bowl for their chosen items.  There were several bidding wars (wine was hot as usual, as was the Warbird flight and the SF Giants Luxury Suite) but hottest bidding war was for the framed photographic art of the Golden Gate bridge generously donated by Jennifer McDonald (www.urbanobscura.com).
